A brow lift will elevate the outside part of your eyebrow the most. The inner part will be lifted very little if at all. Elevation of the inner part of the brow gives the “surprised” look and is to be avoided.
There are two different types of brow lift:
- Open brow lift
An incision is made in the hairline and the brow lifted. The excess scalp is removed and then the incision is closed. This is the more traditional operation with a longer scar concealed in the hairline.
- Endoscopic brow lift
Three small incisions are made on the hairline and the brow is lifted. The brow is fixed in place with tiny screws and sutures. This procedure has the advantage of smaller scars. In both cases a
small plastic drain tube will be inserted and dressings applied. The drain will removed after two days.
The operation itself will take one to two hours and once completed your anaesthetist will wake you.
After surgery you will be taken to the recovery room where you will be closely observed by our experienced nursing staff. They will take care of you until you are fully awake and ensure that you are comfortable.
You will be allowed to go home once you have fully recovered from your general anaesthetic which is usually three hours after the operation is completed.
After your operation it is very important that you remain in the care of a responsible adult who will stay with you overnight.
Your anaesthetist will prescribe pain killers for you to take in the days following your surgery. There will be mild to moderate discomfort following your operation and it is advisable that you take it easy for the first week. An appointment will be made for you to see Dr Broadhurst two days after your operation to remove your drain and then a week later to remove your stitches.
